Enrollment process
Any agency or individual can refer someone to APAA to obtain recovery support services. Referring agencies please send a referral form indicating how you have been serving the individual in the past and indicate how APAA can help the individual.
The first step in getting started is to stop by the APAA Office. Inform the Front Desk Clerk that you need recovery support services.

You will receive an enrollment packet which should take about 30 to 40 minutes to complete. During this time you will also view a 10 minute video that features the Recovery Movement nation-wide. You will also have a chance to meet and interact with peers volunteering at APAA.
Initially you will be introduced to a Recovery Coach and then you will receive an appointment to meet with your assigned Recovery Coach within the next day or two. It is very important that you keep your appointment or call to reschedule.
When you meet with your Recovery Coach, your file will be reviewed. You and your Recovery Coach will engage in a coaching session. Basically it’s your chance to talk openly to someone who has been in your situation before and who understands what you are going through.
The Recovery Coach will serve the role of a peer and not a clinical counselor. You will not be given directives on how to pursue your recovery. The Recovery Coach will inform you of the resources available and will guide you with any questions or concerns that you might have.
The Recovery Coach will be able to work in coordination with your counselors, probation officer, parole officer, or clergy in efforts to reinforce and support your personal gains in the road to recovery.

Expectations
Resources are valuable and APAA is looking to invest in the betterment of individuals in recovery willing to make a commitment of at least 6 to 12 months. During this time, APAA will be able to address needs and help establish a stronger support system for individuals to decrease chances of relapse and help sustain long-term recovery.
APAA hopes that members will speak of their recovery and their success story to help promote APAA’s recovery support services and help reduce the stigma that is associated with recovery from substance abuse.
APAA asks that members “pay it forward” by each informing 3 other people about APAA and help them obtain recovery support services at APAA. By paying it forward, APAA will be able to reach family and friends faster and more effectively. It’s the family & friends’ support system that keeps individuals strong and on the path of long-term recovery.
Recovery Commitment
After the enrollment process, an individual is assessed and screened to identify strengths, areas of improvement, needs, and aspirations. The individual’s weekly schedule and other engagements are taken into consideration before determining how many coaching sessions, classes, activities, and events he/she can participate in at APAA.
The Recovery Commitment is a 2 month minimum agreement in which the individual will attend and carry out what he/she set out to accomplish. Sometimes it’s attending job readiness and pursuing job search activities and at other times it’s attending counseling sessions at other collaborating agencies.
If the 2 month Recovery Commitment is completed and the individual feels the need to extend it, APAA will continue to support efforts to sustain long term recovery.
The purpose of a Recovery Commitment is for the individual to chart a course with set attainable goals. The uniqueness of a Recovery Commitment is that it’s customized based on the individual’s needs, expectations, relapse triggers, and own personal goals. Practicing the skills used in living a healthy life-style is empowerment. The more you practice it, the better you get at it, and the greater the chances of sustaining recovery.
The only way to cause an interruption in receiving recovery support services is if the individual violates APAA’s policies, rules, code of ethics, or acts in a fashion that would misrepresent or hurt APAA and/or its constituents.
